We stayed there 3 nights on 2 different occasions. We were expected to pay extra for charges for things like breakfast (which was supposed to be included in our prepaid accomodations through our unscrupulous tour agent ET PUMKIN. We saw other customers arguing at the front desk about over charges too. We had too many similar problems. The hotel desk agent sent us with the wrong driver who took us 30 miles into the country before he let on that we were the wrong passengers and then he was expecting that we would pay him off to get us connected to the right day tour group. The worst was arriving at 4:30 a.m. expecting to be given the room that had been arranged by ET Pumpkin and then being told if we wanted the room it would cost $40 usd. Fortunately the night clerk was very tired and gave up arguing when the next couple came to the door. He probably gave them the same song and dance! The maddening thing generally was that we paid our ET Pumpkin travel agency an extra fee for superior accommodations. In Viet Nam the term Superior indicates an official designation meaning that the hotel has to meet certain standards...this hotel has some amenities but it is not superior. The staff smoke in the main lobby stinking up the whole two story area. Furthermore the internet connection is expensive and unreliable. The halls are noisy with no carpet or other features to dampen noise. Our room was adjacent to the kitchen vent which blew bacon grease odors beginning early in the morning. The rooms are small, but the worst is the run around and the sick feeling when you realize that you cannot trust the honesty of the staff.

Walked in off the street to be greeted by very friendly and efficient staff. Chien was of great help and made our stay a pleasurable one. the rooms are great with a big bathroom and very cold airconditioner. the breakfast was supplied and served by the lovely helpful staff, who went out of there way to make our stay one to remember,

On first impressions, this hotel appears to be a great deal. Wi-fi, extra gadets in the room like hairdryer, some toiletries shower gel etc, fruit, tea and coffee making facilities, nice towels, bath robe and a lift. And heating that worked..a MUST have in the cold weather Hanoi was experiencing. All extras not necessarily expected for the price of 35usd for a double in a good location.

However, a male receptionist with a bad attitude lets the place down! He was arrogant for all our dealings with him (leaving luggage, collecting, keys etc) and then on checkout denied all knowledge of the deposit he demanded from us on booking, unless we could provide our receipt to prove. Watch out for this and make sure to keep your receipt! We would be still there if we wanted an apology from him!

One other point to note is that the breakfast (although good) is only served until 9.30 am sharp.

Its located on Hang Dau street that runs parallel to Nguyen Huu Huan road where you can find a halal Malay food restaurant. The restaurant is less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Best is to book the hotel via email without paying upfront. The hotel has its own website. Insist to see the room first and ask the corresponding rate before making your decision to stay. If you need to have a late check-out, get their agreement before checking in.Otherwise, late check-out is charged upto 50% of the day rate.

I stayed at the Salute Hotel on two occasions, leaving for a three day trip to Dien Bien and then returning. I paid up front with a travel agent and did not have to use my credit card. The hotel web site says that two of the rooms have a balcony. Avoid those rooms as it is not a balcony but a patio or landing that is available to all the other guests and is one of the places where smoking is permitted. I had a deluxe room both times and the first time the room opened on to the balcony. The room was very very small. The second time was a large room and was quite nice, even if the carpet and sofa needed cleaning. One of the desk clerks kept asking for money for various reasons and then said he was "joking". The location is very good for visiting the Old Quarter. The price did not seem too bad considering it was Hanoi. I would consider staying there again if there was nothing else better, but I found I was not comfortable with the attitude of that particular desk clerk who also wanted to book tours and tried to double charge me for a taxi to the airport. Having been to Hanoi before I was aware of prices and did not permit myself to get taken advantage of. But be cautious if you stay there.

We had similar problems while paying with credit card.
They told us credit card was not accepted, but now back at home the amount was charged 2X.
Please watch out and avoid this hotel.

Hotel itself is ok, small but clean rooms. Probably price is a little too high for what is offered.

We had a bad experience while paying. First, they billed us too much and after we had resolved this, when we paid the bill by credit card, the receptionist pretended the machine was not working properly and used the card two times resulting in double bookings. The same thing happened to a friend who was travelling with us.

Apart from that the hotel is really nicely located and clean.

The area is quite noisy - so remember to bring ear-plugs, apart from that it was OK. Extremely good location, you can reach the "lake", old town, french area in a couple of minutes. Breakfast standard; tea, coffe, eggs, toast, jam, etc, etc...nothing special - also offered a Vietnamese breakfast.

This is a 2-3 star hotel, located right smack in the busiest part of Old Quarter Hanoi. It is a shoplot unit, turned into a 6-storey hotel.

Right at the doorstep are shoeshops and shopping and food.

The service at this place is lacking in smiles. Room is a quiant little place with French window dressing, making it look cosy. Breakfast is just one big piece of baguette with 2 eggs, rather disappointing.

Nothing very impressive, but location is ideal.

After dismisssing tours pushing various hotels, we stumbled upon the Salute hotel. We checked in to a very nice, clean room; however, it did not have a view and the tv line-up did not include an international news channel. Price for the room was 30.00. The location of the hotel is quite good, but what really makes the place is the excellent, friendly staff. I really enjoyed my five night stay and would certainly book the Salute hotel again.

We stayed for two nights in the salute hotel which I believe is the sister hotel to The Majestic Salute. The Salute hotel is two star. The staff were extremely helpful and plesant to us. We only checked in at 10.00pm and the staff helped us book our boat trip to Halong Bay leaving the next morning. The hotel kindly held onto our suitcases over night for us sparing us from lugging two suitcases on the boat. Our room was huge, however the bed was a little too hard and furniture and the bathroom needed renovation. Good price at $42 per night. Excellent location .

Overall the hotel property and day staff were fine, the food good, service good and location is excellent.

But the management of the hotel made offered a nasty experience I will not soon forget.

I had booked the hotel through my Handspan travel group guide, Son, for three nights, and confirmed this at check in when I turned in my passport.

On the third night of my 3 night stay, I arrived back the hotel from a long day of touring to find out that they had given my room to a tour group and wanted me to get my belongings out of the room. The room was still unoccupied at 8:30PM and the night desk clerk refused to lodge me for the night.

I spoke to the manager of the hotel on the phone and he said they would put me in a "nice hotel nearby". From the night desk clerk it was clear they had overbooked and chosen to save face with a tour group and put me out. No notification that morning when I turned in my key, nothing. Not only had a 3 night booking been confirmed at time of booking by my Guide from Handspan, but also at check in with the day desk clerk. Basically I was at their mercy because at 8:30 on a Sunday night, I had to rely on them to help me find another place to stay. Mistakes can happen, I understand, but they should have presented the problem to the incoming tour group and dealt with them starting that afternoon when they saw I had not checked out instead of putting out an existing guest. This apparently never occured to them, nor was this even an option when I spoke to the manager.

And they had the nerve to charge me for 1/2 day luggage storage while kicking me out at 10PM at night! It was the night Vietnam had played Malaysia in football so there were almost no rooms available -- took until 10PM, missed dinner, and the hotel they put me in was a dump, right across the street from the gravestone cutters who worked until 12:30AM.

Unbelieveable.
